The Quiet Weight

There is this version of building a business that everyone posts about.
The wins, the milestones, the announcement posts.
Then there is the real version...
Whether you are an entrepreneur, a founder, a business leader, or just building something on the side after hours, you know the real one.
It is the late nights nobody sees.
The weekends that quietly disappear into work.
The soccer game you had to miss again.
You are carrying the business, your family, the goals you set for yourself that you refuse to give up on and all the people counting on you (Most of it living in your own head, all at once).
Nobody really warns you about that part.
They warn you about cash flow & competition. But not about what it quietly costs you when no one is watching.
I have been doing this long enough to tell you two things
Building something that matters takes more out of you than you expect. It can feel overwhelming, and honestly lonely, far more often than anyone admits out loud.
It does not have to stay that way.
Find Your Tribe
So the real move, the one that actually keeps you standing, is to build your tribe on purpose.
Not by accident, and not only once you are desperate. On purpose.
Mine has three layers, and I would bet the strongest people you know have some version of the same.
The first is the masterminds & industry communities.
There is a whole world of them, and it exists for one reason. The people building things needed somewhere to take the weight, somewhere to be around others who actually understand it. When you genuinely cannot see the way forward, odds are someone in that room already has. I have leaned on rooms like that myself, and they are one of the healthiest moves a person building something can make.
The second is home.
For me, that is my wife, and the alignment we have built around what we actually want out of all this. For the family, for the business, for the life we are trying to create. When the person closest to you is pulling in the same direction, the weight gets lighter in a way nothing else can touch.
And the third is your peers.
Friends in the same fight, at the same stage, wrestling with the same things you are. Not mentors up on a pedestal. People right there in it with you, who understand because they are living it too.
None of it makes the pressure disappear.
But you stop carrying it alone. And that changes everything.
The Tribe You Build Inside the Business
Here is where it all comes back around, because there is one more layer, and it might be the one that matters most.
The team you hire.
We usually talk about hiring like it is about filling a seat or clearing a bottleneck or getting something off your plate.
And sure, it is all of that. But something deeper happens when you bring the right person in.
Every real A-player you hire is one more person helping you carry the weight. One more person who owns something you used to own completely alone. One less thing sitting on your chest at two in the morning.

That is what a great hire actually is. Not a resource. Another member of your tribe.
Which is exactly why who you let in matters so much.
The wrong hire piles more weight on you.
The right one lifts a piece of the business off your shoulders for good.
Working On It, From Higher Up
And there is a reward waiting at the end of this that nobody really talks about.
Every time you hire a true A-player and hand them something you used to carry, you rise a little. You stop being the person doing that job and become the person leading it.
Do that enough times, with enough of the right people, and something genuinely shifts…
You are not buried in the business anymore. You are above it. You can finally see the whole thing from altitude, working on the business the way you always meant to, instead of being trapped inside it.
That is not a reward for being a great manager. It is a reward for being a great tribe builder.
The loneliest part of this journey and the highest part of it turn out to be connected by the very same thing. The people you choose to surround yourself with. At home, in the room, and inside your own company.
Don't Do the Next One Alone
I want to make you an offer, and there is genuinely no catch to it.
If you are struggling to make a hire right now and could use a second set of eyes, I will get on a call with you. We will map out what you actually need, work through whatever is making the decision hard, and I will give you my honest read.
No pitch, no pressure, no strings.
I normally charge $750 an hour for this.
But for readers of this newsletter, it’s free. Not as a funnel into something else, but because I remember exactly what it felt like to carry these decisions alone, and an hour of real help from someone who has been there can change everything.
If that would help, just reply to this email, or grab a time below.

One Thing Before Next Tuesday
Take an honest look at your tribe. All of it.
Who is in the room with you. Who is at home pulling in the same direction.
Who is in the trenches at your stage. And who have you hired that genuinely carries weight with you, versus who is just filling a seat.
Wherever that list feels thin, that is where to start building next. On purpose. This week.
Key Takeaway
Building something is lonely mostly because we try to carry it all alone.
The people who go the distance figure out they were never supposed to.
They build a tribe into every layer of their life, including the people they hire. And the reward for building it well is finally getting to rise above the very thing you have spent so long buried inside.
CATCH UP ON LATEST HIRING INSIGHTS
In this video, I break down the four major hiring shifts redefining the 2026 job market. You will see how AI in hiring is actually playing out in practice, why most companies failed to implement effective AI recruiting systems, and why in-person interviews, compliance, and human-in-the-loop recruiting are becoming critical again.
